Haystack at Mt. Snow becomes opener for Rock Maple Racing, Presented by
the New England Dodge Dealers
WILMINGTON, VT — With the unexpected loss of the planned season opener at
Loon Mountain, Haystack at Mt. Snow will now host the initial round of
competition for Rock Maple Racing this weekend, Dec. 13-14, as the 2003-2004
snocross season officially gets under way.
The Haystack event features an all-important Winter X Games Qualifier, with
the top five finishers gaining eligibility to compete in Aspen, Colorado, in
what has become the sport’s most prestigious event. The high-pressure rounds
to determine who goes will take place on Saturday afternoon.
Fans will have another added bonus on Saturday at Haystack. Rock Maple
Racing will bring its Pro and Semi-Pro riders into the spectator area for a
one-hour autograph session. RMR racers love a chance to meet the fans that
support regional snocross, and look forward to this opportunity. Without the
support of these hearty, brand-loyal enthusiasts, the series would not be
what it is today.
Sunday will provide the usual full card of racing at Haystack. Gates will
open at 8 a.m. and racing will get underway at 9:00. Professional and
amateur riders from around the northeast will battle for trophies and
bragging rights on the challenging track. Admission is $10 per adult, per
day, with no charge for children age 10 or under.
Last year at the first Haystack race, Jason Boron recorded wins in Pro 440
and Pro 600, while Simon Belzile rode to victory in Pro Open over Matt Boron
and Danny Poirier. In Semi-Pro, CW Sirjane swept all three liquid classes
while Jeff Arsenault claimed two second place finishes. Arsenault, of West
Dover, VT, would love to kick off the new season with a win at his home
track. Sirjane’s move to the national tour leaves Semi-Pro wide open for
2004.
Haystack Mountain is the oldest host venue on the Rock Maple Racing
schedule. Since 1992, the popular southern Vermont ski area has been the
backdrop for many snocross events - each one successful thanks to excellent
track conditions and a well-suited facility.
Back before the World Snowmobile Association (WSA) was created, Haystack was
the site of national snocross events. Some of today’s big stars, including
Blair Morgan, have raced there in years past. When the old MRP circuit used
to make its eastern swing, Haystack played host to some the best racers from
the Midwest and beyond.
